Im looking at building a IRS BEC locost and although I see sierra components are usually used (ease of availability, using complete doner car for age related plate etc), what other doner parts are more favourable??

Don't worry about going for an age related plate, there are certain benefits, like irrelevant emissions tests on q plates

btt, you'll need engine/box, loom ecu etc from bike, and from car steering wheel/column and (modified) rack, front uprights, discs, calipers, master cylinder.

Diff, driveshafts, rear hub assemblies (if either IRS or de dion), or live axle from another car.

Short list, sure there's more.

Seriously BEC's do not have the torque so weight kills them so all componants need to be light so:

Small wheels
Cortina uprights
Ali floor
Ali panels if poss
basic seats

So from the donor assuming its a sierra you really just want the axle (complete), steering column rack and uprights if you do not want to buy cortina ones, handbrake assembly and master cylinder if non abs.

Its a good idea to keep the whole car if possible to drag out wires, bulbs etc but most of it is of no real use.

I used the rear axle bits, steering, front uprights and got an age related plate.
