What's the easiest way to extract a Mondeo engine...just engine or engine and gearbox then split...?

I took the 1800 zetec i have put in the indy out of an escort estate by taking a 9" cutting disc to the front and driveshafts unbolted and
unplugged it then pulled it out eng and box on a trolley.

Easiest is to drop the whole subframe/engine/gearbox combo from underneath the car if you have the possibility to lift the car.
Otherwise you'll need to strip the engine from everything that's connected to it to get it out the top.

I say chaps all a bit drastic! I'll have another look tomorrow at those options, still need to be able to move the car once removed...and still be talking to the neighbours!
The easiest way is cut the front out and drag it out the front. Failing that drop the subframe off the bottom with the engine and box still on it. Lift the car over it all.
Ford install the engine complete on the sub frame with two people in around 10 seconds.
Get underneath and undo the sub frame bolts, disconnect all the bits and pieces, wiring, gear change exhaust etc. On top undo the top mounts for the
suspension uprights and lift the car off. The whole lot should come out in one go with front suspension, hubs, brakes and even the radiator on the sub
frame.

You can actually remove the Zetec from a Mondeo without undoing the subframe at all. The photo below proves it. I removed this 2.0 Zetec by hoisting
it out upwards leaving the car on all 4 wheels and gearbox still in! I just left one gearbox mounting attached so as the engine was lifted upwards at
an angle, the gearbox slanted upwards in order to seperate the engine from the gearbox. I then wheeled the car back out of my garage.

Thats how I did it in a scrapyard too! Though in hind sight and if I were to do it again I'd borrow a stihl saw from someone and cut the drivers wing in front of the bulkhead and at the bumper and effectivly removing the whole arch. That would make it a simple job of unbolting and jiggling! Oli.
