Thinking of going out to look at a donor car, 1992 1.6 Petrol, but not sure which engine this would be, either SOHC (Pinto) or CVH.
The workshop manual I have only goes to 1989 so does not tell what the options would be.
I am wanting to do a basic build with as much as possible from the Sierra was originally looking for 1.8 CVH but 1.6 does seem to have more
options.

If its a '92 Sierra then pretty sure its going to be a CVH. Not very popular engines. If you are thinking 1.6/1.8 then pinto is the one to go
for. Although wy not just drop in a 2.0?
Saying that i have only got a 1.6 (due to age at start of build, insurance, etc.) and its still bloody fast!

I'm pretty sure there were some late model 1.6 Pintos.
But I only think that as I have a feeling some people got their ignition modules/amplifiers from later cars.
Go and see it and find out!
Atleast if you use it for your car and aim for an age-related plate you'll get a newer one than most cars!

James
Mine was a 1993 with the 1600 pinto
I found this website useful when trying to find a donor. It lists what engines each model should have.

Hope you find it useful.
I'd still see it in person before parting with any hard earned though.

Towards the end of the production run, Ford started using bits from the parts bin to create "limited editions".
My own donor was a '92 j-plate 1.6. The perceived wisdom was that it would have the MT75 gearbox and a CVH engine. When I got it it had a pinto
on board and a type 9 gearbox.

Same here
1992 J Reg 1.6 Pinto
Not much different other than the wiring diagrams in the Haynes book of lies change with the years.

same here 92 J 1,6 pinto. only difference is the rear drums are smaller, but it still stops well with a 2,1 bike carb pinto with piper cam.
everything else is as 2,0

just to chuck my spanner in - 1992 J plate 1.6CVH...
Steve
If you plan to use the engine, the 1.6 CVH is miles better than a 1.6 Pinto IMHO.

Thanks all for the replies, I guess it is just a go and look job.
Thanks also for the web links I will use them as well.

A while from last post about this, car had gone before the weekend trip so I missed it anyway.
Now got a workshop manual up to year 93 and something I did not realise was the later 1.8 and 1.6 CVH were single fuel inject. Has anyone used these
as they are without mods in an own build, or have all been replaced with bike/other carbs?
My aim is a low cost build as I am doing this as a personnel challenge more then the holy grail for speed.
My preference at present seems to be for the 1.8 CVH because of the roller cam followers and later engine then Pinto. But if I find a 1.6 and that is
a Pinto I would use that over the CVH because the 1.6 CVH wears out the cams! (or so I have read).
Certainly staying away from a 2.0 DOHC to big and heavy and generally has EFI systems.
Most of my information comes from the manual or other website's, but would really appreciate Knowledgeable input to the database!
Cheers
