Hi Guys,

Can anyone help answer this question,I want to use my old 1600 escort sport for my car i scraped it 14 years ago with the intention of building a kitcar but never got round to it.I've got all the bits as it was just the shell i thro-away,all though its registered in my name i didn't say to dvla that its scrapped.So what happens when its time to register it will i have to bay for back dated tax??
bearing in mind it was last on the road in 1990.

if you didn't tell the dvla it was scrapped it should still be reigistered (do you still have the v5?) though i'd've thought in recent years you'd've been asked to declare it as SORN.

I'd imagine you'll get hit for the lack of SORN fine. I think it's £25(?) (might be more) but I assume that's a one off not per year. Other than that I don't think it's disastrous as long as you've got the V5.

SORN fines only apply to those vehicles which were taxed in (IIRC) 1999. If it wasn't taxed at that date, there's nowt they can do about it.

Simon is right - for some reason SORN doesn't apply if the car was not taxed when SORN was introduced. I'm not complaining as it saves the effort each year, but seems strange this potential loophole exists.
