02 Plate Mondeo engine?Also MR2
TGR-ECOSSE - 9/2/08 at 03:48 PM

Just been to local scrappy and they have an o2 plate Mondeo in. Can antbody tell me what engine that might be in it and would it be suitable for a locost and whats involved in fitting it ? I was intending to fit a crossflow engine so havn't looked at alternatives but can get the mondeo engine for much cheapness so has started me thinking Before anybody suggest it i dont do bike engines!

The scrappy also has a mk2 MR2 in. What engines were fitted to them as i could probably get that cheap as well.

Before anybody suggest it i dont do bike engines!

Cheers Ronnie

I'm sure that the Mondeo will be a blacktop Zetec but could be a Duratec as they were introduced around that time both of which will need fuel injection and a cat. You really need to have a peek under the bonnet to see and also need to know what the engine size is.
I'm not sure about the MR2 as I think that the 4AGE was only used in the Mk1 but I could well be wrong there.

4age were only used in mk1 mr2s, the mk2 ones use the 3sge

Assuming 1.8/2.0, the mondy engine will be a duratec. Bit more fiddly than the zetec but IMHO worth it for the increased power. However will cost around (IME) £500 on top of the zetec as you will need to fork out for other things like bellhousings to mount it to a Type 9 (and, as above) a catalytic converter

Silvertop zetec launch -> 1998
Blacktop zetec 1998 -> 2000
Duratec 2000 -> Present
