hi again guys, having decided not to get that xr4x4i (couldnt check its condition, too expensive etc) i cant find a single other one in my area!! grrr have you got any suggestions for other suitable donor cars that miay be in a more ready supply? i would rather like independant rear suspension and disc brakes all round, a simple build would be nice!

I think an E30 M3 would make an awesome donor, a mx5 1.8 or put a bike engine in it with the usual stuff

I would have thought BMW would be a good start.

MX5....... running donor for about a grand BUT it really can be a single vehicle donor. Front uprights need a bit of fiddling about with but a few guys on here have done the donkey work if you do a search. Otherwise IRS, disk brakes, 6 speed gearbox if you get the right car, usable dials and gauges etc etc....... Got to be worth a thought

Not so good if you want a BEC perhaps

im using bmw but onli real problem so far is the front uprights are not easily useable so i am going to use sierra uprights and hubs but then it means i have 4 stud front and stud rear. Only real problem so far.

sorrry to jump in here but on the haynes forum their is drawings of how to use the bmw uprights and pics of finished car

I cant remember if I have already mentioned this but Chris G (author of the hayned roadster book) is looking for someone to build one using an E36 beemer for him to base a revised version of the book on.

AN e36 should come with everything you are looking for ie IRS, discs all round, good engines etc.

I'm using an E34 5 series but it's going to be a lot of work.

that sound like an interesting proposition ill see if i can get hold of one! also ill update my profile so if anyone is selling one in my area thanks for all the suggestions guys feel free to add any more if they come to you!

And is cheaper
