Sierra discs and callipers
chris-p-duck - 13/7/08 at 08:18 AM

Got a strange question. A friend of mine is putting together a Robin Hood 2B and is having some grief with his front brakes. He got some callipers from RH which he exchanged for a recon set. But when he assembled then to the hub with the disc (vented) in place they all locked together. The callipers are (according to the bloke in the motor factors) ok for the vented discs. Anyone got any ideas as to a solution? Are there more than one width of Sierra vented discs?

Cheers

I'm pretty sure the ones of the Sapphire are different to the hatch cars. I spent ages with the guy in Halfrauds trying to figure mine out.

The diameter seems to be ok but the width seems to be the issue. Do the widths differ??

Are the pistons wound in fully ?

Paul

My rear ones needed winding in a little more to get the discs in.

Don't know about the varying disc widths, but mine are 22mm.

Im not sure what you mean by locked together...

Did the caliper carrier make a secure assembly with the front upright?

If not ....then its due to the bell depth of the vented disc.

The Xr4i and the 4x4 use different discs
both are 24mm x 260mm but the bell depth is 53mm versus 58mm which means
the the carrier locks up again the disc 5mm short.

You will find it all here...

As the caliper assembly was located onto the hub the disc would rotate as you would expect however when the caliper assembly is tightened up the disc wont turn. Having seen his photos it looks exactly like my assembly which works fine. So I have assumed that either the disc is different or the hub is different. This issue is made more complex as I dont know that the hubs, disc or calipers all came form the same donor vehicle as they were purchased from Robinhood as part of a 'Donor Kit'. So is it possible that they are a mismatched set?
