Donor cars (again).

Hi guys recently a friend (corrado vr6) and i have been looking into building a kit car. We have chosen to go with an MK Indy and i was wondering if you would help me out with choosing the right donor car. I haven't been driving for long so to keep insurance costs down for a year or so i was thinking of using a 1.25 ford zetec engine. Any help would be great!
Thanks

Dave

im not an expert on these matters, but you will probably be suprised at the size of engine you can get away with for insurance with a kit car, the specialist companies often offer fairly low premiums as they assume you can fix it yourself, you arent going to be driving it much etc etc.

also if i could buy again, id definatley go for buying parts where possible, you ca get the stronger mt75 box, lsd and disc brakes of the xr4X4 and front uprights etc from 2wd sierra, and buy the engine you want as well, without having to get rid of a rusting hulk

As above, there will be a difference depending on the engine but kit insurance is silly cheap compared to tintops so I'd just build your "ultimate" car according to your budget and worry about it later. If you can afford to buy the kit I'd be surprised if you couldn't afford to insure it.
