Estate Sierras
eddie99 - 28/9/08 at 02:37 PM

Hiya guys, Still searching around for a donor car, hoping to find one this week. From my searching estates generally seem to be cheaper than normal sierras.

Does anyone know the exact differnces between the two. All i know so far is the rear is wider. And obviously, the cheaper the better, so if its just as easy to do with estate. I will look into it further

Thanks

Eddie

As far as I am aware there are no differences between the saloon and estate versions of the Sierrra that would affect a locost build.

I think the rear sub-frame is different, but unless you are building a Robin Hood, you won't be using it anyway.

From what I understand the vehicle being an estate should make no difference unless you use some parts from the rear i.e. the tail lights. As for it being wider I doubt the axle would be made any different from standard to keep manufacturing costs down. If it is though you'll get a bit more stability through the wheels being further apart :-)

I think that you will find that it doesn't matter whether its a Sierra/Granada/Salloon/Estate they are all the same width/length of Diff/drive Shaft/Hub.

I used Granada donor on Sierra based kit and needed no modifications at all.

As above rear subframe is different and the spring ratings.

If you use a Granadas they have a 7 1/2" diff.
I had one for my Velocity build but it woundn't fit so had to get a Sierra 7" one
