Zinc passivation
ceebmoj - 7/12/14 at 11:01 PM

There is a long running thread on the joys if using electrolysis to strip parts. So I thought I would post some pictures of the bits I have been zinc passivating. I ended up doing this my self because I was let down a number of times because the bits where to small to the professionals to do. Its so easy to do I would recommend that everybody has a go.

The continence of the kit, enough to do a lot of bits.

I had given all the bits the bits a very quick once over with wet and dry to improve the finish and then a good wash.

All the bits I did today. It took about two hours to get the bits done. However I recon that I could half that now I know what I'm doing.

Looking good - great job.

Looks like you used the dish washer, for parts cleaning.

So, how did your wife react to that? (Know mine wouldn't be too happy - by a very long way!!!).

Nonetheless - from where did you get your e/p kit?

Looks like the same kit I bought a few weeks ago, but haven't had time to try it out yet - glad it works well. Did you get the gold coloured chemicals with yours, and have you tried that too?

Tony.

I presume you have a clear passivation rather than the more usual yellow colour?

The other half was out so unless she comes on hear it's all good.

The parts where done in the clear / blue pasivate I was hoping that the bits would come out more blue.

Do you mind me asking where you get the kits from? And it's the coating durable against abrasives (I.e. road spray) for those that have used it for some time or is it more of a corrosion inhibitor? Thanks in advance!

The kit I have is

I am doing it for corrosion resistance.
