Chaps
I'm in a relatively fortuitous position financially at present and wanted to buy a 'new' car to replace my current daily driver. I run
an old 2007 E60 M5 V10 and do around 15k miles per annum in it. I love it, but its got 106k on it now and i'm getting a little nervous about
putting many more on there regularly.
I've looked at every 'reasonably sensible' daily driver and have narrowed it down to three options, with around a £50k budget.
An F10 M5
Nissan GTR
911
Thats it really. My sadness is loosing normal aspiration 8250 RPM red line, limiter deleted and remapped 560bhp and the Hayward and Scott exhaust
system on the V10, which just sounds glorious...
My kids are grown up and the wifes car acts as the 'sensible' weekend hack if needed.
I'm heavily inclined towards staying with the 5 series as I had 2 e39's previously, which I loved. My bother has the 535d F10, which drives
very nice, so I'm sold on the platform.
I've never owned a Porsche and the GTR appeals on lost of levels, but I'm worried its a little 'young' for me and a different
class to the others.
I know this is a nice conundrum to have, but would just appreciate views and opinions on each.
Used to run a V10 M5 with Einsmann exhaust. Intakes and remap as a daily
Tried a few things including a 996 turbo and a Cayman R but I missed the noise. Looked at a GTR but in the end I got a V8 Vantage with Capristo
system and carbon intakes.. big big noise now. Makes the M5 seem sedate by comparison!!
checks the forum name....yeap, thought so
I'd go with the Locost GTR...because
Can't really help but would like to have your dilemma. I'd be swayed by the Porsche of the three but I'd be looking at an XK or a 6 series.
Have you though about a maserati granturismo S? I bought one last year and love it. If you like loud cars you won't tire of opening up the exhaust flaps. Has to be one of the loudest factory exhausts!!!!!
Just beat me to it, maser grand tourismo gets my vote, the later 4.2 na version, in dark grey with dark red interior.
Gtr is the sensible choice.
Noble m12 / m400 would be interesting as would a v8 vantage.
Or wait a year and the v8 jag f type will be down to that price.
Always worth a browse through the bramleys Web site for ideas.
I envy your dilema!

It's automotive related so it's fine by me. Seriously some people get off your high horses. If you ain't got a constructive o
opinion then don't post.
F10 is a stonking car but very undramatic. I would go an have a look see at a 911. Reliable and very well screwed together. Either that or how about a
1m?
Love it, I will be getting the new jaguar ftype if I have that sum burning a hole in my pocket. Seriously though, do you want to adopt me and insure me on whatever car you get??

I do not begrudge you your position as I am sure you have worked hard for it BUT a lot of people on this forum participate with a view of building a performance vehicle at a low cost as per forum name I personally do not believe that you are portraying this and this question is more suited to Piston Heads. This will be my last and only comment. Goodbye.

I'm a car guy, not trying to be a smart arse or anything... I'm aware that 50k would buy an extension, and if that's what you want,
then go ahead and buy one. I love cars and spend my income disproportionately in this regard.
TBH, I would love an exotic, Lambo/Ferrari etc, but I need a car I can drive every day and park up. I also can't afford one... I love having the
performance, but with a little subtlety in the clothing department.

3 quite different cars in my eyes. A luxury "barge", a 2 seater 'ring eater and a happy jappy piece of plastic.
Maybe try to look deeper into what you want and expect to get.
As we repeat time and time again to newbies. Get yourself along to a show and sit in some cars!!
£50K is not a huge amount to spend on a car. The amount of spanking new 40K cars on the roads these days is crazy.
"happy jappy piece of plastic..."
You've obviously never been in or driven a GTR
I have. And almost shat myself!

I really am most likely to get the F10, but no one seems to love it?
It is pretty 'ordinary' compared to the other options. If the choice was between that and the Audi RS6 or E Class AMG then maybe (although I'd take the RS6) but if you can get/run a GTR or an AM Vantage/Audi R8 then I'd do something else with my £50k
You could always put around half that money into a really nice car and use the other half to pump into a competition car and come play with us guys all summer! You could get a cracking radical pr6 for £20k or even go to single seaters! They will make all the above seem very slow/mundane

Not my thing but if it is what you want, go for it, you don't need anyone on here to validate your choice.

I don't think anyone is doubting the F10 m5 speed, for me anyway (I've only been lucky enough to passenger in a v10 m5 and F10 m5) in the words of James May, it just didn't have the "fizz". I found the v10 more exciting. And any car that plays synthetic engine noises through the speakers loses points for me!!
its not constructive to the conversation but personally I would love a GTR... me and the wife have promised ourselves one for her next daily. She isn't replacing her 335i until there is enough money in the pot to buy one. Cant wait... only another decade to go
The acid test for me would be.....when you get out of it after a drive would you look back at it as you walk away.

V8 vantage with a manual box, you will be looking back but then I like Aston's
To revist this thread, I went for a brand spanker F10 M5..... Just too good a deal and the car is absolutely epic. Sold the V10 M5, now waiting patiently for the delivery....
I've had most cars, including the ultimate gtr...pile of crap for the money! As a nice daily driver, I prefer diesel, loads of low down power. I thought Audi had an r8 diesel in the pipeline?
