Sierra XR4X4i Donor
Hi
I have been offered a cheap XR4X4i as a donor car, before I buy it could someone tell me what bits I can use off of it?
I think I remember a thread on here that said some parts were unsuitable.

Will have a 3.62 LSD fited at the back which will be spot on.
Gearbox wont be of any use, engine may be depending on what it is and what you want.
Front uprights wont be of any use either.

Unless you are planning a 4x4 (see Dax Rush Quadra / or Liam) then you'll need a new gearbox and front hubs at a minimum.
I'd imagine that it might also have power steering and ABS, both of which will be redundant in the 7.

If you can get it for a decent price, it's worth buying. Will have a 3.62 LSD so all the back end you can use. Propshaft may/may not be useable
depending which engine you intend fitting. You'll need to source steering rack and hubs from a non XR4x4 but I'm sure there's lots
of other bits and bobs that you can use such as wheels etc.
The bits you don't use you can sell on e-bay and even possibly make a profit. Go for it.

the sump on the engine will be scrap as well due to the drive shaft running through it 
I used a 2L XR4X4 as my donor and only used rear diff 3.62 LSD, shafts ect.. from the back but use the discs, callipers and carriers from the front
and fit them on std 2 wheel drive uprights, you will have to make up a couple of spacers to move the calliper inboard but you get bigger discs. And
the usual steering colum, switch gear and the wires going into the back of the switches

Rear axle is worth getting.
Disc brakes and LSD Diff.
Diff should be 3.62 which is a nice ratio especially of you have 150Bhp+
Dont scrap the diff, if its in reasonable condition its worth £80 plus.
Dont forget the steering wheel / column Indicator / light switches and shroud.
Plus any sundry bits wire, relays, horn, etc
Wheels are useful as build wheels (saves you trashing the nice final build ones when being clumsy in the workshop), or if they are good, save some
money and use them, then replace later when funds permit.
Front hubs are not much good. But the front calipers are worth having as they are for 260mm discs, as opposed to the std 240mm ones. (They will also
match the rear calipers for performance)
I had 4x4 rears and only 240mm fronts and it failed the SVA (twice) on being over braked on the rear.

Thanks everyone, that's a big help. I found it lying on someones driveway, he wants a £100 for it.
It's a 1989 model, 2.9 V6 with twin turbo engine.
I started off wanting a V6 but couldn't find one up here, went from there to a Duratec V6, couldn't get a bellhousing, discounted the
Omega V6 then decided on a Zetec 2.0, now I have came full circle back to the Ford V6.
My wife works for a company that sells turbos (marine ones) so that might work out for me.
All I need now is my Viento chassis and I can get going.

For £100 snap it up.
You'll also get a log book for a year plate and not a Q.

What would you suggest as a suitable gearbox without having to spend too much money? Do you think a MT75 would be up to it?

MT75 is supposed to be a bit stronget than a type9.
Go for it at £100, its worth it for the rear axle alone. Let alone the other bits.
