Buying a salvage repairable donor
Hi all
Did a search this evening on using a salvage car as a donor but I'm still not clear on the dvla rules - can anyone help please ?
Previous posts state that you don't need a VIC because the damaged car isn't going back on the road.
The DVLA website says that for Cat A, B or C a VIC marker is set against the car and until it's removed you can't have a V5C - the marker
is only removed when it passes a VIC. So how would you get an age related plate from such a donor ?
Is it possible to get an age related plate using a salvaged donor ?
Also if buying a spares/repairs type deal from a scrapper, do you normally get a V5 to use to get an age related plate ?
The other questions I have are:
Does all this apply to Cat D ?
Are all Cat D's non recordable ?
thanks
Paul

It is possible to get an age related plate on a scrapped donor as that is what I did, although I had a copy of the V5 prior to scrapping the car.
It's far from guaranteed though.
However if I was doing it again I'd go for a Q plate as the emmissions test at MOT is easier.

Thanks Stu.
Interesting point re the emissions - in what way is it easier for a 'Q' plate ? Is the IVA emissions test also easier ?

Pre 91 as most age related plates will be should be very easy to pass anyway??

iva emissions isn't easier unless you prove the age of the engine. it'll be tested under what year the engine is.
MOT is visible smoke test(though you'll hear of some differences to that, some people have figures on the MOT system to say what it should be)
for a Q

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!
