Engine/Parts Proof of origin
I bought my donor engine separately and have subsequently lost the sale receipt. Unfortunately the breaker I bought it from has vanished from the
face of the earth. Is this going to be a problem come IVA time as I can't prove where it came from?
Could I *cough* install the engine in a sorned car I have here and scrap it later for the engine. Will this throw them off the scent enough. Is this
illegal? Wouldn't have thought so as the engine isn't stolen. Engine laundering anyone?!?!?

Is it just a receipt you need? Never sure how these things work, but could you 'sell' it to a friend/someone here and then buy it back off
them, thus gaining a receipt?

If you want a Q plate you don't need to prove the origin of anything.

On the bike I road registered the examiner looked at my home made engine-number plate and said "If this wasn't a Q plater I'd
probably ask you to see what's under that, but it is so you're fine" and laughed. Phew!
FYI, It was a copy of the proper engine number but was 30yrs old and pretty well painted over

You will need to prove its age at IVA for the emissions test. A letter from the manufacturer is the usual way.

I thought a Q was just a visual smoke test?
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

I think that's at MOT?
IIRC for IVA you have to be able to prove the engine is as old as you say it is, else you could roll up with a brand new engine, claim it's 30
years old and not have to do any emissions or run a cat.

Do you need to prove it's age or just undergo a cat test as if it was a late engine if you are not claiming it is pre cat ?
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

For proof of origin I just said "I bought it six years ago when you guys weren't so anal about this kind of stuff and there's
something in the UK whereby you're innocent until proven guilty so unless you can prove this engine is nicked (which it isn't) stop
quibling and give me my registration details". Wound them up nicely.

I recently swapped an engine in another kitcar. DVLA wanted a receipt on headed paper. I had a receipt but just torn out of a receipt pad.
As an alternative I had to have a garage inspect the installation to say the engine in the car was the engine number I was claiming.
So swapping the engine into your SORN may not work.
