Anyone know what motor is in a H plate 2.0 MR2?
A mate of mine is trying to get rid of a Toyota MR2 sports 2.0 on a H plate, got no MOT or Tax and he's looking for around £200 for it. The car
is in Tunbridge Wells.
Does anyone know what motor it will actually be on that year? And if it's owt decent would it be worth the ££

If you finish up not buying it I might be interested - by all means u2u me any details (ie what's wrong with it!) if it's still
available.

I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator

Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours.

It'll be a 3S-GE, as has been said. That is, assuming it's not a imported turbo. Just check for knackered head gasket as the 'pipe
from hell' (the one from the engine to the rad that goes behind the engine and fuel tank) cracks and causes low coolant. They don't
sludge up the oil when they go so looking for yoghurt under the oil cap isn't a good test, you need to take it for a spin and watch for
overheating due to air in the coolant.
Great little cars though. Drop a 3VZ-FE 3.0 V6 in it like mine....

Not necessarily! A Malc says the MR2 "Coupe" came with the rather weak 3FSE engine (119bhp), and these were all Rev 1 cars (mainly G and
H plate). If no spoiler fitted than chances are it's a 3FSE, but there's plenty around with spoilers bolted on!

The non spoiler one comes with a 5SFE and it is poo. The 3SGE on the other hand is alright, it aint no 4AGE though!!
The SW20 is a bit lardy, if you want a real midengine runabout 2 seater get the MK1 AW11, I have had a late MK1, an early MK2 and a later Mk2 turbo,
the MK1 was by far the most fun in the bends

The 5FSE was never fitted to European MR2s, only US ones AFAIK. We got the 3SFE.
Totally agree about the lard factor though, the Mk2 is very much a mini GT car, great for long distances (as long as you don't want to carry
much luggage!), but the Mk1 is a far more nimble car. That said I still miss my MR2 Turbo, had a lot of fun in that.

Thanks for the responses fellas - in other words, the engines nowt worth shouting about so if he's been offered £200 he should probably snap
their hand off?
I think the owners just p1ssed cos he bought a RX8 and was offered £600 as trade in and turned it down and now it's out of tax.
