Bmw 535? some novice questions?
Hello all,
I'm new here(my first post), so be gentle.
Some of you probibly know me from the PPC forum.
I have the chance to buy a very well built bare chassis.
So i'm starting to look at engine/donor options.
I quite like the idea of using a BMW 6 cylinder out of either a 535 or 528.
My question is, does anyone know if this engine/box will fit in a standard size chassis?
The chassis is too good to do any major altering to, but obviously, some minor mods to accommadate the box, etc.. Are fine. I know it won't just
drop straight in, but if it means serious changes, then i'll look for a suitable 4 cylinder.
Cheers Frank.

size
i think you will struggle with fitting it in.
the sump size very deep too so that will need changing.
i looked at the 535 and it was too wide.
good luck finding a engine to fit.
Thanks

Think small and light not big.
While lots of people have built big engined cars based on the book concepts the whole Seven style car concept should be about ultra lighweight
for fantastic handling and power to weight ratio.
If you want to use a straight six or a v8 or even v12 think Cobra replica.

I think the the 535i lump isn't that big once you strip it back, Have a look at the GKD website as I know a e36 m3 lump fits and its not a big
car. Its more to do with the design to ensure it fits along with everything else.

If it is an issue, i'll go for a Saab Turbo engine, out of a 9000.

Well fancy meeting you in here! There'll be loads going to tell you it's too big, too heavy, not suited to a seven & you should go for
a 4 cyl engine of 2000cc or less. They are right of course but this whole mucking about with cars thing is about doing it your way.
There'll also be folk who tell you this is a nut-house but when you're a regular on PPC...

bmw 6 cylinder engines are the future, so much cheap than trying to get the same reliable bhp out of a ford/vauxhall N/A engine

TBH, i was thinking of the 3.5 BMW 6, because i had a 1990 535i, and by time i'd finished it was pushing out around 520bhp!!
So i do know the engine fairly well, but i think the standard 200+bhp will be enough, in something this light.
There's no need for twin turbo's, like my 535 had.
I just like the idea of the 3.5 married to a later BMW 6-speed box, out of a diesel.
I suppose i best wait until i get the chassis back and have a measure up.
