Problem loosening wheel nuts
Hi
cant quite believe I've done this but I must have forgotten to loosen wheel nuts on my donor car - MX5.
Now totally stripped so all I've got now is the engine sat on subframe, wishbones connected to subframe and then 2 ball joints onto wishbones,
one onto steering rack and then the hub/wheel assembly.
my problem is I can't apply enough torque on wheel nut to loosen it without turning wheel. If I jam wheel with a pry bar, I just lift the
engine instead.
I was going to remove the whole assembly and then worry about it later.
Any ideas ?????? This is even worse than the rear hub nut fiasco !!!

Old brake disk with a bit of box section welded onto it that will jam somewhere when you turn the nut.

thanks guys - looks like I need to go to friendly garage yet again or buy an impact gun.
The number of things I've forgotten to loosen is almost comical - and by almost comical I mean absolutely not comical at all.
The Missus actually heard my wrath through the garage wall tonight came outside and said "think its time you came in now !!"
oh well enough of my woes - thanks again chaps....

What about the breaker bar trick of rocking the wheel back and such.
If you're commited enough it'll remove most wheel nuts.
I was in exactly the same situation a few days ago. It was on some wet grass which may have helped, and the nuts may not have been as tight as poss,
but it worked.
Failing that i'm trying to think of people i know in derby with impact guns, so far they've all left since finishing Uni.

Hi
I'll try that tonight but I reckon plan B is take the whole hub off wishbones and then put wheel flat and get someone to stand on it.
If not I might be able to borrow an impact gun now so hopefully I can get sorted.
I am such a muppet !!!

if you have a compressor, then an air powered impact gun isn't expensive.
I got one from Screwfix (although they seem to have gone up in price).

i got one from ebay for about a tenner and its got almost everything off (including rear hub nuts!)
FREE THE ROADSTER ONE…!!

Thanks for everyones' replies.
Plan B worked tonight - chain wrapped in several layers of cardboard put through two spokes and then chained tightly to engine crane. Deep breath
and then major breaker bar effort and job done.
Phew !!
Now back to my rear hub nuts !!!
