Donor V5 question

Hi, I recently bought an engine and gearbox with some other bits from a breakers yard and the guy was happy to give me the complete V5 from the vehicle the parts came from. My question is what do I now do with this? Do I need to declare the donor as scrapped or do I just do nothing until it comes to IVA time?

Thanks in advance for any replies,

Chris

I was wondering this too. I scrapped a 328i and so far have just SORNed the car.

Just sorn it. Don't scrap it. When you want to get an age related plate hand in the V5. Dvla will sort the rest.

Mine's not really a donor though as I'm only using the engine / box. I'm just keeping the V5 for engine proof. Should it be scrapped in this scenario?

Generally the V5 doesn't cut it for proof of engine age anyway. You usually need a letter or data print out from the manufacturer.

It's post '95 anyway so not trying to sneak it under that, just proof of where the engine was from really.

Won't do any harm to have it. But my iva man still wanted to see a proof of engine age and I was using a 1999 engine. Luckily I was prepared and had it with me. He accepted a print out from my local dealer however some want a proper letter from the manufacturer.

Thanks for the replies. I'm still a bit in the dark though! As I only got some parts with the V5 do I need to first declare ownership of the vehicle to the DVLA and then declare SORN?

Thanks
