Volvo 340GL

Hello to all, just about to retired my 340GL Volvo from service and was wondering as i am new to this, If i could possibly use it as my doner car ?
The rear is independent but my concern is that the gear box attaches directly to the diff.
Also is it possible to loose the renault engine and fit a zetec instead. My concern hear is the gearbox on the diff.

Now im tapping all your knowledge as i know someone will have the answers.

Many thanks
Ian

I think the transaxle would occupy the space usually reserved for the drivers left buttock

yeah , unless its a CVT then it would occupy the whole seats !! , a +4 chassis would be a better base , from my measurements i took a while back , youll struggle to sit next to it comfortably since the box is on its side . Do some measuring and see how it looks ? you could just slap a 1.4 turbo on the bellhousing - lighter and more compact - its worth considering - im having a second look .
