Sierra steering rack

Hi all.
I am stripping my Sierra in the next two weeks, it has a non power assisted steering rack can I use and adapt this instead of looking for a Escort Mk 2 and can anyone tell me of any others that might be suitable or a good improvement.

Thanks.
Jon.

I believe the MK2 Escort and Sierra steering racks have different chassis mountings, which may mean you have to alter your chassis to use the Sieera rack. The racks may also be different widths as well and therefore require different length extension pieces on the ends of the track rods.

My MK Indy used a Sierra rack, but MK narrowed the body of the rack to make the inner track rod ball joints line up with the inner pivot points of the front wishbones (important for reducing bump steer).

My understanding is you could - but the rack needs to be shorted and it's not a DIY job - you'll need a machine shop to do it. New MK2 Escort racks are readily available through a good few sources, e.g. -https://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=10557&osCsid=28r61rhir12deg56q01reg2050

Aphoto here of my Sierra rack that MK narrowed. They took it appart cut open and narrowed the alloy casing on a lathe and then pressed it back together with a turned alloy sleave. As jps says above it's not an amateur job and done with machine tools (lathe).

Is that Terrington near lynn ?

Mk now sell a bracket kit to convert the Indy to an escort rack ive seen due to good sierra racks and quick racks getting harder to find.
