Possible sources of cheap donors
Hi, i'm sort of new to this forum, as I know someone who is making a car and and now thinking of making one myself. I just thought i'd
suggest an idea for getting hold of decent donors at knock down rates. As you are almost certainly aware of the EU now insists that all cars must be
re-cycled rather than just srapped, this means that it usually costs people to scrap a car rather than getting paid a scrap value for a car. With this
in mind has anyone thought of getting donors from car dealers that have accepted old cars in part exchange that arent fit for re-sale. This way you
can save the dealer money by taking the car off thier hands for a small fee rather than them having to pay to have it scrapped. I remember this was
how Jeremy Clarkson bought a Volvo 760 2.8 litre V6 for £1 in the last series of Top Gear. Would this be a good way of getting a donor car? Would it
pose any particular problems at all? Any other ideas on where to get suitable donors without spending too much?
PS. I'm not nessarcerilly going to make a Locost, just something along similar lines.

Good in theory but scrappers in our area don't charge to pickup and give you 20 quid if you deliver thanks to the increasing cost of steel.
Also my local ford dealer wasn't interested in talking to me about their trade-ins as he said they all go straight to auction. As I understand
it their liability is the same for old trade-ins as it is for forecourt cars, hence their reluctance I imagine.

plus auctions are a fairly poor source due to the fees - £40 on a £30 car for me...

A dealer would only do this to trade not to the public. I am sure that Jeremy's name being mentioned was a LARGE factor towards this deal.
If you set up as a trade buyer, start buying a few cars and are going to do this regularly, they know they won't get any warranty comebacks so
they would possibly do this.
