mk3 escort donor
I've spent an afternoon in my element, side cutters in one hand and hammer in the other. An old mk3 (maby a mk4, i'm not sure) we had
kicking about has yeilded several usefull items, that a mk2 donor doesn't provide.
One item I haven't raided but looked interesting was the steering rack/front uprights.
The uprights are clamped onto the damper/spring unit like sierra unrights, and the whole lot looks like it could have potential in a 7 chassis with
only needing a mushrooms (like sierra), the drive shaft + CV joints tidely removing and mount the rack behind the uprights, there looks like sufficent
room in a locost if the engines not too long.
Parts i've raided
Steering column, which has collapsable outer with ridge shaft/UJ's, will need lengthening. Is this good enogh for SVA?
Throttle cable. much longer than on a mk2, so should make floor mounted pedal much easier.
All The wireing loom. This should provid more than sufficent when combines with the mk2 loom to make a frankenstien loom. The best part of which is a
very neat fuse/relay box, which will go very nicely with a locost.
Electric rad fan. could come in useful if it can be mounted behind the radiator.
Expansion tank. Like the fuse box, should look quite neat in a locost, but mounting will be interesting as the mk3 use quite a commical
arrangement.
Othe bits 'n' bobs also came of like throttle pedal, which looks better for fitting in a locost chassis than a mk2 pedal

If you take the driveshaft out, you have no support for the centre of the wheel bearing, probably collapsing very quickly!

I didn't look too closely at the hub/uprtigh, I only glanced in between butchering other parts.
Is is not possible to remove the CV joint from the shaft that goes through the upright, it may need gas axe or a grinder though.

Just leave the outer section of the joint in the hub, pull the shaft and inner part out, take the balls out and just leave the cage and stub in the
hub.
The steering rack could be a problem though. If you put it behind the hubs, won't it interfere with the engine etc!?

The MGF front hubs are like this from the factory.

Might well be. Just noticed when servicing that they have the end of a driveshaft sticking out of the back side.
