Donor vehicle

Hi all,

Are there any production cars with double wishbone suspension suitable for use as a donor for a scratch-built?

Considering the types of cars available in New Zealand, it would most likely be a Japanese Import, Holden or Ford. Not too many Europeans to go round here.

My current plan involves a MKII Mr2, which obviously has struts. My bonnet design is too low for the struts, and I don't really want to tackle designing my own wishbone layout.

Any feedback appreciated!
Cheers,
Peter

Have a look at the MX-5 Miata. Are you trying to use the donor wishbones or uprights?

Thanks for the reply. I'm trying to use as much of the donor as possible - so both.

Pea.Sorry,Not an answer you're looking for but related. How are New Zealands laws etc etc on Kitcars/self built road going motors. What i'm getting at is why are you not making your own wishbones,is there an exspensive ministry test to do,high insurance and other related horrors related to oppressing Kitcars and their builders.I know there are a few Nz based Kit makers..

..Which was nice..

Sorry for the late reply.

I don't know of any laws against it, and I guess many people do design and make their own wishbones and other suspension componentry.

I just figure (after reading a fair bit about it) that the potential for getting it wrong is very high, especially given that this will be my first project of this kind.

With the help of someone local with experience, I would much rather design my own and go with the MR2 mid-engine layout than go with the Miata (Simply called the MX5 here) as a donor. But I see a lot of potential for disaster
