Any Toyota experts? (wifes Yaris!!!)

Got the engine light coming on on the wifes Yaris T sport, it's happened a couple of times, but it does go off again?
had a bit of a look round, all seems OK.
Any ideas or knowledge of how to check the error codes , without taking it to a main dealer?
(Leicestershire/Warwickshire area)
regards
Col

You need to take it to a garage with a diagnostic machine, not necessarily a main dealer.

Could be anything, there are so many sensors fitted these days the machines the only way, who knows ??

read it out on a machine

the mcu stores all the faults it finds...

when the fault is active it enters a limb home mode and activates the light.

if while working the sensor cuts in again i´m sure if the signal is reliable that every action taken will be undone..

but the code is still in memory.

take it to a dealer clear memory and go out give it some.. and then read it out again

DONT go to a garage...they will just charge you to tell you the code which you can easily find yourself. In a Nissan you just have to jump a piece of wire between a spare in the fuse box and the dash flashes to tell you the fault code. Just had a quick look and seems Toyotas are the same, your haynes manual should show you how! You do have a haynes dont you?

Oh...and those fancy Gunson fault code readers they sell in Halfrauds are just a piece of wire with a switch inside...wish i'd known before i bought one Save your money and check it yourself

Fault codes are listed here: ODB2 Fault codes

i work at a toyota dealer, and i can honestly say we do not charge to diagnose the fault as it only takes 2mins.
your problem only sounds minor as the light is only coming on intermitent,
we have had plenty of yaris' coming in with the engine light on and its usually
simple things.
most of the time we just clear the fault as there is nothing actually wrong with the car!!

Thanks for the replys guys.
The last 2 sum up my concerns
In so much that yes a dealer SHOULD pull the code off for you in 2 mins, for free but wether you can get out of the door with an honest answer and not be charged for the pleasure?
If there is a paperclip method I better try find it or buy a haynes
Or drive to Wales

Cheers

take the car to a dealer. dont go putting paper clips in places they dont belong. you might end up shorting out the ecu or something else that costs funny money. all that could be wrong is a engine tempreture sensor costing £25 or less

i will try to find out if you can use a short pin wire. we used to use this method on the old carina e. and use it to recode ecu's on rav4, but seriously it is probably nothing to worry about,
