sentimental sellers...

beware of sentimental sellers! needless to say I didn'y buy this one!

email quote:
"But the guy who's interested is a real Sierra fan, and the car is going to a good home which is what I want; lots of memories, and it needs looking after. Let me know if you can make a bigger offer"

"lot of memories"? That to me translates to "Don't ask about the stains on the back seat".

I know someone who worked in the car trade, and he said the worst thing was trying to gently explain to people that their "much loved car" was in fact a heap of crap and was essentially worthless, despite them thinking it's worth a grand.

My mum was no better though, she was convinved that the C reg Renault 5 she had that failed it's MOT so badly that they didn't even bother to charge us for it (one look underneath and it was condemned), was still "worth something". In the end my dad and I quietly got the scrappers to take it away when they came for the remains of my XR2.

Ah well, leave these people to their delusions and once the car has been rotting on the drive for 6 months they may just realise that it really is a worthless piece of crap.

my mother had a crap renault five - also c reg. she replaced it for a while with a crap seat ibiza so ended up at one point with TWO POS cars. Her plan (as it costs 50 quid to get a car taken away nowadays!) was to put an ad in the paper for the cars as free. I said no one would be interested in picking up a POS even fro free - who wants a C or D renault or seat?

eventually they got hauled away - two got a discount I think

And I'll bet they wonder why they get loads of abandoned cars in your area!

Oh, I forgot, you live in Northamptonshire, where the authorities appear to be totally devoid of logic. Having said that my local council isn't any better, they've set up a scheme to allow residents to group together and sign a petition if they want the speed limit lower in their area. Well, dur, who not going to want a lower speed limit in their area? And also they've got 24/7 20mph limits for about 1/2 mile either side of all the schools in the area, and have reduced a large number of other limits. They've also gone for the nanny state approach to corners and have set compulsory limits on steep corners, rather than just warnings and advisories.

Anyway, that's enough whinging from me.

my mum and dad live in north london.

but you are right about northants.

we have a road in northampton thats full of tipping, burn out cars (even caravans) and the contents of gardens - even kitchem goods in the middle of the road.

At the end of the road is the main dump for northampton! They had this great idea - to reduce the amount of stuf for recycling - of charging to use the dump for 'too much waste' - I have actually been in the dump where people have been told there was too much to dump in their car.

Guess where it goes!

My dump in kettering is a PITA. They have made it so that you have to segregate everything, and enter via a 'carosel' system.

Cant put garden clippings in a balck bag - you have to tip em out. Wood goes in a certain place- but only the right kind of wood. Clothing in others, bla de blah.

I can understand recycling, but a trip to the dump now is like mastermind - you need to know all the rules.

The best bit are the signs outside.

Illegal tipping outside is a 20k fine.
Dumping hazardous goods - like uranium or summat - is 2k. So, chuck yer lawn outside the gates and its 10x less than a bag of anthrax.
