Registered as Dutton?
Is this a car with ID borrowed from a Dutton?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2431125249&category=29750
No connection.
Just spotted it whilst browsing and it rang a bell, something that had been mentioned here!

Col,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news......and it is BAD news that your f27 is still registered as a Cortina. the DVLA had an amnesty for this type of
thing-but that was a while ago. MOT stations are not meant to test/pass any car that does not match the log book description. which means that
you'll have to SVA your car to keep it on the road. Now,all this was dependant on MOT stations being connected by computer to DVLA. This is
Britain,so they might not have got it working.
The kit car press was full of warnings about this a year or so ago. Best bet would be to talk to an MOT tester. Isn't JGG one?
Hope this helps!

I don't know nuffin, but isn't this the kind of thing that could invalidate your insurance somewhat?
Hit some kid who runs into the road, get sued, no insurance, screwed.
Personally I'm a very play-it-safe kind of chap when it comes to the law. Too scared of getting banged up / losing my license.

Trouble is, the DVLA are insisting that MOT stations have computer terminals to check on these things... and they may be installed by now.
Good luck!

Find a backwater MOT station, with a greasy-overall'd mechanic, who doesn't look like he knows one end of a computer from his a*se.
This computer terminal thing is new, so maybe MOT stations aren't up to speed on it yet.

AFAIK all MOT stations are going to be linked up to the network by next year and they have to be used to issue the MOT.
Something to do with cutting down on people getting their MOT's from the 'man down the pub'!
Having said that, a lot of garages wouldn't know one kit car from another. Unless of course the new system will show them a picture. (Er
doesn't help if you still have the donor car as the make obviously!)

they might guess it's not a limited version of the cortina, though. even if you did show them the uprights.

Why not SVA it? You might be pleasantly suprised at how little, if anything, you have to do to get it through.

Not such a dumb idea - get hold of a SVA manual (talk nicely to Steve G) and see how it matches up.
If you like the car, and plan to keep it, then having it 100% legal ain't a bad idea.

I'm an MOT tester, and if I'm presented with a kit or similar, and I can't determine the manufacturer, it becomes an "ameteur
built vehicle." Just because the owner says so, doesn't make it so!!
The whole computerisation thing won't happen until at least early next year, as Siemens can't iron out the bugs, and VOSA (was VI) want a
trouble free roll out.
It will be a very useful tool, will report on items specific to the model and year, and even remind the tester on what was
'advised' last year. Certificates will be downloaded, but the test result will be held at VOSA. All the vehicle keeper will have in his
hand is a test pass notification. A pad of stolen certificates will be worthless... Hopefully.
As Browser says, SVA it.

You could try contacting the www.DuttonOwnersClub.co.uk as I believe a couple of members have put cars in for SVA that weren't previously
registered. Alternatively is there a F27 owners club? Bound to be someone out there that started their build prior to SVA.
I had a Dutton that still thought it was an Escort and Swansea told me that it would have to go through SVA. If I'd removed the windscreen &
wipers etc (to avoid having to fit demisters) and changed the steering column, there wouldn't have been much that needed major work.
Good luck, at least you've got a year to sort it!

ooh, don't know about hazard lights, but I suspect so.
I know the brake fluid warning light is a must as is a handbrake warning light. On the plus side these can share the same bulb.
The Mk1 Escort steering column, didn't have a collapsable boss which is why it would have needed replacement.
