I have used a capri axle, it fits nicely into a book chassis, a few minor modifications.

You are still going to need cortina uprights, unless you use sierra ones with suitable adaptors, in which cas why not use a sierra donor and a GTS dedion rear end for a simple, quick build. They also do the complete chassis

i presume MK as in mark, not MK as in MK engineering ?

MK 4s can still be found, engine, box, back axle, front uprights, + lots more will all be usefull,

guess 2ltr pinto is the one to find, 1600 ok though.

Now if it was MK as in MK engineering go find your self a old jelly mould sierra........

confused ? you will be..........

As John said, if you are going for MK, a sierra is in order, if building your own chassis, a cortina would be ideal, but parts are becoming more difficult to source.

Sierra parts are available everywhere, and your choice of off the peg chassis is much greater. If I was starting again I would buy the most comprehensive kit I could afford and by now I would be preparing for my next MOT, not starting to prepare my chassis for its final paint
