Sierra stripping
Any recommendations on the best way to strip a Sierra - i.e. where to start and where to finish and in what order?

unless you have a big yard with plenty of space leave the axles and wheels on untill last so you can move it around.

Id say whack the engine out, then bits you want from the inside, then turn her over for the running gear

Don't forget to undo the rear hub nuts while the rear axle is still in one piece on the car. They are torqued very high. 200 and something foot
pounds. You need to undo them on the car so you have something to turn against. You will need a scaffold pole or similar.

So will an air impact wrench with the appropriate size socket not shift the hub nuts when they're on the car?

or if youve forgotten to remove the nuts an air chisel or impact gun. Classic mistake to make also recomment the same for the font hubs a lot easier
to slacken when on the car.
Life is like a bowl of fruit, funny how all the weird looking ones are left alone

Haynes says rear hub nut is 221 ft/lbs, Left hand nut has a left hand thread.
If you have top notch air gear then it may shift but many people have resorted to big levers. Remember that the nut hasn't shifted off the
thread for probably 20 years so may be well stuck. I think the hub nut is 41mm across so you may have to go out an buy the appropriate socket. If you
do a forum search you will find this has been covered many times before.
Have fun

I used an impact wrench on
mine and it uses a 41mm impact socket (came off ebay) However remember that the passanger side is a CLOCKWISE thread (opposite).
I started with wiring, other bits then engine and running gear when it was outside.
I did have the help of a forklift to lift engine out and shell up and down.

no further advice as far as the order of stripping goes, but don't underestimate how much there is! I have a few photos saved under the
'donor' file in my photoarchive which gives you a good idea. Also, I stripped the car totally, and cut up the shell as the scrapyards
aren't interested in collecting the empty shell.
A word of warning - be careful if you do this - plan how to cut it first, the bits spring up / off / down in some surprising ways - you can get some
very dangerous kick backs off the angry grinder !!!
On the other hand, it is good fun !
Good luck!

Are you using ALL the Sierra? I'm looking for a Sierra being stripped locally to nick the wiring loom from. Where are you?
