emptying fuel tank
Hi
Can you please let me know if this is a really bad idea !!
I can't get a siphon into my MX5's fuel tank in such a way as to siphon the remaining fuel.
I'm wondering if I depressurise by removing the fuse for the pump in the tank, then presumably the engine will burn everything from the filter
"forwards".
Then if I reconnect the fuel pump fuse and disconnect the lines at the filter, crank the engine will it then pump out all the fuel ?
thanks
Paul

Think you will find that on more modern cars if the engine is not running the pump will not run for long ie a couple of seconds
Phoned the local ramblers club today, but the bloke who answered just
went on and on.

It would work, but one very flat battery later.
An alternative would be to disconnect the fuel return and stick in to your jerry can, then when the engine is idling fuel will be constantly
returned.

Ok thanks - apparently it might have a drain plug (oh please let it have a drain plug) so I might be able to get around this.
Thanks again

One way could be to remove the fuel return pipe and run the engine. if you can get the fuel return pipe to pipe into a drum/container it will pump
most of it out and only use a small amount. Im sure ive done that before many years ago on a car.
Just noticed someone beat me to it on that idea lol.. didnt read the replies very well! lol

Best way I've found to empty a fuel tank is let the wife have the car for a few days, always comes back empty!
Right, now where did I put my coat?....
