VOLVO T5 transplant
Hi folks,
Can someone please give me some practical help on the fitting of a Volvo T5 lump into a Locost. I have read that the M90 RWD gearbox is the one to go
for but I understand there is a BMW gearbox option as an alternative. Here are the questions I need answers to please.
1. Will the stubby M90 Volvo manual gearbox fit into the transmission tunnel?
2. If the M90 box fits, which flywheel and clutch do I use? The ones from the t5 or the ones from the Volvo 940/960 the box came from?
3. If using a BMW gearbox, which one should I use, and again which clutch and flywheel?
4. I understand point 3 needs an adaptor plate which I see is available from Sweden at about £230, any experience of this?
5. Are there any other options to go RWD with this engine?
Thank you.

I don't know about the BMW box but:
1. Will the stubby M90 Volvo manual gearbox fit into the transmission tunnel?
If you're building the chassis from scratch then you could plan it around the M90, it's FAT. If the chassis is already made, it'll
need chopping up.
2. If the M90 box fits, which flywheel and clutch do I use? The ones from the t5 or the ones from the Volvo 940/960 the box came from?
I used flywheel and clutch from an 850 t5. The M90 only comes from 960s btw.
I'd advice not to go down the M90 route, expensive to buy, very fat.

Thanks Benzine, much appreciated. Do you still have a car with the 850 unit in it? Leicester is not far and I would be grateful if you had the time
for a quick viewing.

The bmw box has been done but isn't from what I can gather straight forward.
When looking for M90 box's keep in mind there are two types of bell housing Red block and White block motors. The second being ultra rare.
