Donor Car Removal in Reading?

Hi all,

Anyone know of anyone who removes cars (without wheels and running gear...) near to the Reading region? Cheaper (or free) the better!

Thanks,

Chris.

Ring the RAC, 'I think my car's broke'

I'll have a look around being in that area.

Try yer local council.

Lots of councils are now taking them for free as it saves having them dumped in lay-bys and they end up moving them anyway.

You get £25 for a Sierra shell if you take it in round here. Lots of people will take them in for free.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Berkshire Car Spares (Dunaways now I think) in Arborfield charged me £40 to take away my Shell.

gadger i met in manchester area said he was paying to collect scrap cars, i guess it depends on the area. I count it lucky to get it removed free.

maybe ring some local scrap merchants? you might need to remove glass/ tyres / oil there though.

Ta for all the helpful replies all!

Tried the local council and they offered that scheme to the first 300 people that phoned up. That was in August last year so no luck there...

It seems that most scrappers around here charge... Bugger

Shady people in transit pick ups, they call in the yard occasionaly for any scrap metal, and pay a bob or 2 for each car they take. They take them as is (wheels included), ask no questions, hear no lies.

I had a REALLY frustrating time trying to get somebody to take my shell, and was in a bit of a hurry so couldnt wait for some tyre kicker to come and take it away, so one morning, i just chopped it up[1], put it in the boot[2] and took it down to the local council tip who gave me a load of boll*cks and abuse, in the end i took it to a breakers yard and although they were a little bemused, took it off me without any problems.

In my infinite wisdom i thought it would be a good idea to do it over a bank holiday weekend, about 3 discs into it, i realised this was going to be a very long job. Of course, nowhere was open for me to rent anything bigger. I'd probably go for a air saw or maybe just a jigsaw in the future.

Was great fun though.

You wanna use a paddy saw with a big disc on it. get through it in no time. I knew a bloke that cut up a fiat uno like that. Took him half a day.

only a good idea if you enjoy it though - half a days wage is at least the £20 that you would pay someone to take it for you! better to just work and save the spare time for building! (IMHO of course )

Thanks for all the replies people! Much appreciated.

Going to pick up my Diesel Sierra tomorrow, so will hopefully need to dispose of it within a few weeks after stripping all the relevant parts.

Strangely enough I was thinking of air chiselling apart the whole thing and disposing of it myself. But again I thought I could just pay someone to do it in a few minutes rather than a full day chiselling. Probably missing out on a lot of fun though!

Anyway, if anyone's heard of anywhere that disposes of them cheaper than £20 or even free, post it up!

Thanks,

Chris.

The guy who took my sierra away did it for free. It appears he had a contract to supply cars to the local fire brigade so they could practice their cutting cars open.
I would suggest you contact the local fire station as they may be able to put you in touch with the people they use.
The graet beauty of this was that they were happy to take the donor without wheels uprights or rear axle.

Thanks for all the help guys and gals.

I ended up using A4 Breakers who came over and craned the shell over the front wall and dumped it on their truck for a tenner!

Later,

Chris

Anywhere that is still charging to fetch cars is ripping you off!!

I take mine to a local scrapyard and got paid £50 for the last engineless and suspensionless and part chopped up Cavalier that I took down there. They just grab them off the trailer, squash em with a loading shovel and stick them straight onto a lorry to go to the shredder.

Scrap is worth money now remember!!!
