Doesnt seem to be water related ECU is very well protected from water and all connectors under the bonnet are waterproof.

I think its probably a dry joint on the board. I will be resoldering it all tonight and see if that fixes it.

Weather looks crap for the weekend anyway - so there we go.

Sounds like a dry joint, an oxidised/dirty connector/ic socket or a broken wire. Any of those can go bad with vibration and be 'fixed' by magic when you have a poke around.

I'd avoid using IC sockets in a high vibration environment as they are failures waiting to happen.

Nasty to find in my experience. I've seen auto electricians grab bits of loom and waggle them around while the engine is running to try and find connector/wire problems.
