if you want to be different go for a single rotor turbo, less mass and less unsupported length on the eccentric shaft = more rpm's = more power with a fraction of the components in a 3 rotor and just think how far back the centre of mass would be !

Excellent point. Good weight ratio.

But, what donor car has a single massive rotary that also would have acceptable uprights, transmission and steering column?

I think I'd be getting away from my 1-donor goal.

I dunno, never heard of a single rotor engine except in the ultra small world of rc planes, but then your talking about single cc engines with hardly enough power to spin a full size wheel let alone a full car.

The idea of a 3 rotor is good, and as interesting of an idea as it is I have shelved my dreams of 3 or 4 rotor supercardome, and decided to stick with the 2 rotor for now, maybe turbo it, and best case senario, the 13b and the 20b share the same motormounts.

there are not many single rotor engines around. The only one I know (apart from the bike and lawnmower ones) would be a NSU Wankelspider one. If you find that one: a good one is worth more then your Locost will cost
The only option is a custom build one. But that's pointless. A 12A with Weber or Mikuni carb and good exhaust will push about 150hp, a ported one even more.
A nicely done 13B NA goes for 180-190hp (my friend has just been to the dyno with his 1986 NA, rebuild engine with ported housings: 187 hp at the flywheel)
and if you go bridgeport you can pass the 200hp, still non-turbo!
Turbo's are good for 200hp or more on 12A's and 300-500hp and more on 13B's. Should do for a while.

OK I think this topic is dead

In summation:

3-rotor.....good for the rich, mentally insane builder who wants a lot of headache procuring a donor to create a Hi-cost supercar with mega horsepower virtually no better or faster than a turbocharged 13b. Driving a car such as this may actually even cause you to soil yourself.

1-rotor.....Only if you want a lawnmower powered go-cart
