Cortina as a donor???
Hi people, this is my first post....be gentle with me.
Well i am at uni doing mechanical engineering, which may be useful...but it also means i have no money!! So the project isnt happening for a while
yet, dammit. But i thought i would do some research before i start.
What i was thinking is this...
Since i am planning to build close to the book...Would it be possible to use a Mk3 Cortina (it seems there are more of these around than Mk2 Escorts)
as the main donor for the car, and just get hold of an escort rear axle? Or are there complications to doing this?
I have read that the cortina rear axle is wider than the escort one....anyone know by how much? If it ain't much could the cortina axle be used
on the standard chassis. I have done cad drawings of the chassis so i suppose i could modify it easily enough.
Hmmm seems as if i may have answered my own question.
Anyway i would much appreciate any of your valuable advice on this...basically are there any problems using the cortina as a donor....
(BTW i do want a x-flow engine, not a pinto so the sierra is out.)
Cheers,
David

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the
error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

If you can find a cortina its probably the best donor for all your bits, the wider axle fills the arches out nice too.
cortinas are out there,it just takes a bit of looking
