Hello another newbie needs advice
Hi Everyone
Another newbie that needs help with donor cars and stuff. I’m a complete newbie, I’ve cleaned the garage and convinced the wife that this is the right
thing to do, she thinks I’m having a mid life crisis, two thirds life crisis as I doubt I’ll live to be a hundred, and that is the extent of my
knowledge base.
Anyway, I want to build a Locost, an oversize Locost to take my 6’ 6” 20 stone body, with a 2.9 Ford V6 in it.
I understand the engine can come from a Scorpio but can I use the diff and the hubs etc as well, or do I need to get a Sierra to get those bits?
I thought I would buy the donors first and get them striped before I bought the steel as I can’t weld yet. I live in Aberdeen, so if there is anyone
up here that would like to teach me how to weld in exchange for beer money I would be grateful.
Any help anyone can give me regarding donor cars and oversize chassis plans would also be very welcome.

Hi Grumpy
Welcome to the site. Loads of useful info on here (and some not so useful).
Lesson 1 - Ignore the wife.
Lesson 2 - Have a look for McSorley's plans, as opposed to the Ron Champion book. There are several larger versions of the McSorley plans, for
example the +442 (which I think is plus 4 inches in length, plus 4 inches in width and plus 2 in height). There are other versions available.
(NOTE;- unless you fancy making or modifying your own bodywork in fibreglass / ally, make sure you can get bodywork to fit before welding up the
chassis!).
Other than that, have a look at the Haynes Roadster, which is Sierra based and I think a bit bigger than a book (Champion) chassis.

Hi GrumpyOne,
Welcome to the site! 
The guys above have said it all really, do research into body work available if you decide to go wider.
There are quite a few on here that live in and around Aberdeen, hopefully they will be along in a minute. It might be an idea if you put your location
ie 'Aberdeen' in your profile, so we can see where you are, and more localised help would be more forthcoming.
Do spend time reading posts and using the search facility, you can rest assured that all questions have been asked before......

Hi Colin, and welcome.
I'm 6' 4" and 16 1/2 stone. I am building the McSorley +442, which is indeed 4" higher, 4" wider (in the cockpit then
tapering down to 2" wider at the nose) and 2" higher.
I'm not sure about the Luego Viento but I understand it's considerably bigger than the book too?
Also, I tried the Robin Hood 2B at Stafford last year and it seemed reasonable but the leg room may be a little restrictive for you.

Told my wife it was the car or an affair, she told me to have an affair, it would be cheaper and kill me quicker
I have gone with the Viento, it is much bigger than a book car, it fits me at 6' 6" and 20 stone with room to spare and it seems to be
well made, which I doubt my chassis would have been if I had welded it myself.
On with the build now, if my donor car ever arrives.

Hi grumpy one. I'm in Fraserburgh and have a 442. It'll be on show at the vintage car rally at Fraserburgh tomorrow and if you're
on the go give me a shout and introduce yourself and I'll let you have a sit in it to try for size. If you can't find me ( I'll be
building a grey fergie and marshalling) ask any of the marshalls to point you in my direction.
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.
