Just read something a bit worrying in kitcar magazine
Apparently under the new IVA, engines which were manufactured prior to august 1992 are subject to the less strict emissions test... My sierra donor
was first registerred in dec 92....
Am I screwed? Going to check the engine casting numbers to determine the block casting date and see when it was made...
Any advice? If I'm subject to the stricter emissions test will I need a cat etc?

I thought it was 1994?
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Have you got a copy of the IVA manual? Maybe worth getting a copy if you haven't. Must admit I thought it was 94 too.
I have a copy if you can't find one.
Cheers

Looks like you're correct and you may have a problem, just read page 36 & 37 on the latest iva manual and it does state 1st Aug 92 as the
cut off date.
As your sierra was registered in dec 92 I reckon it'll be close, depends when the engine was manuafactured, it'll be bloody close though!!
Fingers crossed and you'll be ok.
Check the v5 and block, hopefully they'll match (mine didn't!), the engine dates are in the Burton catalogue, maybe on there webite too
but best to order a catalogue so you have it to take to the IVA as well.
Cheers

NO NO NO NO ALL WRONG
Its still the same as SVA
Have just downloaded the manual from the link in the IVA section and on page
4 of 14 in section
Metered Emissions 02B
and follow the flow diagram and follow the pages down as you fail the BET test you then go to CAT1 which is on page 8 of 14 and the important bit is
the exact match and as they will NOT be able to find an exact match you will have to do a NON cat test CO <= 3.5% and HC <= 1200ppm

But doesn't the flow chart carry onto page 5?
Hope I am wrong though...

Yes, I agree with you Tom, shouldn't need one, panic over Paul... I would still get the iva manual Paul if you haven't already just for
your own peace of mind.
Cheers and thanks Tom

Just had a look at the manual link.
Very confusing.
As far as I could understand, kitcars could also come in the 1st aug '94 to 31 july '97 are also tested at 3.5%

cheers rich (got your email re: iva manual - will download it later today when I have 5 mins) & everyone else.
I remember reading the IVA manual on the other laptop we have, which is currently ready for a format and clean install as it's buggered, and can
remember the flow diagram. Luckily, even if I was right in the OP my block has "NA" in the engine number which means it was March 92 so I
would have been fine...
Thanks for all the replies & putting my mind at ease
