Saab engine - how difficult?
Hi all,
A friend of mine is building a Locost, we've been keeping an eye on 200sx prices but ones that are worth using (i.e. someone hasn't tried
to take up drifting and destroyed the engine) seem to get good money. Presumably from the next ebay 'Drift King' bidding too much :-)
So anyway, we were thinking of Saab B204 4-pot turbo from a 94-on Saab 900, mated to a type 9 with a conversion bellhousing, or straight onto an Omega
box. From there information is scarce, does anyone kow if the existing inlet manifold and other bits and pieces cause problems in RWD
configuration?

No major problems when I stuck the B204L in my old Dutton, I used an Omega box which to me looks huge (not that I've seen a type 9 up close). I
got a partial Saab loom from the ECU to the engine sensors and made the rest by hand.
It also seems a tall engine (and isn't lightweght).
I'd say more but just on my way out, sorry!

Thanks for the replies guys, I tried the search function but must have been blind to miss the thread.
So it seems its not especially difficult, but its tall and heavy, which is also what I'm hearing about the 200sx (S13) engine. hmmm decisions,
wonder if the weight really makes much odds in non-BEC where every kilo seems to count!
I guess its a toss-up between the well trodden zetec route and spending £££ tuning it up, or slipping in a turbo 200sx/saab with extra weight and
possible bonnet bulges needed.

I've been thinking of going for a saab engine aswell but my plans would be slightly more abitious (And I know next to nothing about engines).
Remeber that its not just about weight but about power to weight and about balance and your own problem solving abilities, it seems to me you can get
almost anything in a locost if you can work out how to do it.
