cat c write off
I have just been given some "advice" by a bloke who is trying to sell me a car and wanted to check if there is any truth in it.
he recons that if a car has been listed as a cat C, i would need to be peraired and checked prior to dismantleing for a donor.
any truth in this

Does a donor need to be taxed to get an age related plate? Youd have to take it for a VIC check and get it MOT'ed if it is.

Don't think so, shouldn't matter what the history of the car is unless you want to retain the number plate - lots of parts are found in
scrappys afterall!

If you want too keep an age related plate then the donor has to be repaired as you can't get the log until it has had a VIC. If you don't
mind a Q reg then not a problem

The VIC check is an identity check as I understand it, not a check as to any repairs carried out. Does this mean that the vehicle has to be repaired.

From what I recall it needs a current MOT as well, Think it will need to be repaired otherwise you could clone a stolen car after you get the log book
back.

Cat C is an insurance categorisation, not a DVLA one. As long as the vehicle has not been declared as scrapped or broken up, I don't see any
problem.
Ring DVLA to check as I haven't had to try this yet!
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

A cat C car has to have MOT and be roadworthy to be presented for a VIC and have a new V5 issued. We did this with my daughter's Corsa last
year.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Yep. Done it a couple of times with my mate.
If you need the V5 as proof for the age related etc then you will have to do this.

I thought if you didn't care about Q plates you could use any parts as long as those parts passed muster.
