Donor car For US / Canadien Builders

In Canada the suggested donor cars are not available. I used a 1980 Olds Cutlass

It worked great, but you will have change a couple dimensions

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Sorry, and just did

I thought it would do it automatic

My car is 12" longer, 6" wider and a bit taller

And to handle the power and torque, i didn't use any aluminium and round tube in the chassis

I'm guessing that one of the best donors for US/Canada would be a Miata (MX5).

P.S perhaps I misunderstood your comment about round tube but round tube is actually stiffer and stronger than equvalent size square tube.

Thanks all,

Btw, I replaced the 19mm round diagonal tubes with 25 mm square, the same as the rest of the frame.

As said above, i would have thought MX5 would be best!

I am sure the mx5 works great.

But since I was going to build one, I thought i might as well use a V8, it wouldn't take anymore time and its something different.

The Olds and Chev monty carlo are based on the same frame / parts and very cheap and plenyfull

What about uprights/hubs drive train etc, arn't they a bit heavy for a locost?

Not to bad, I made my car 48" wide. and it worked fine with rear axle from that car. The V8 is a bit heavy. I put mine on a scale and the weigth is about 1750 lbs / 800 Kg with a full tank of gas, and all the body panels made out of steel. It is also 12" longer.

Once i put in the proper engine, it will shave off another 60 lbs.

Whatever works! Mine is regulation book sized, but Miata parts and Nissan engine. Still found it hard to do here in Canada (near Ottawa)

Here in Saskatchewan it was a very easy process to get the car registered. I was pleasantly surprised. The next couple cars i will build after this one might use a different drive line. But the spindles worked out fine, i would use those again since i have the jigs build for the control arms
