New to this game!!

Just bought the book the other week and have started initial investigations.
Been looking for the escort in the book but as i've read they are so rare and expensive.

I see people are using more sierras, what kind of mods need to be made to the plans in the book in order to use the sierra.

Any advice would be apprieciated

build your own chassis!! much more fun. but it does take a lot longer.

if you do this, take note of the book errors: some brackets wrong, FU1 and 2 are wrong, plus others i think.

dont be shy with questions though!

mods for sierra arent too bad, not sure of the specifics cos i didnt follow the book. you need an insert for the hubs, and you need to get the bottom hole bored to a new taper. many companies do this though.

Sierra 4x4, is it possible to use the engine from this and keeping the car rear wheel drive. there seems to be quite a lot of these cars about? Does the chasis need to be modified hugely? any plans about?

Thanks

the tricky part is getting a RWD gearbox, not rocket science but a bit of ball ache nevertheless. plus its a heavy engine. on the bright side though, it has the LSD at the back, which justifies a lot of the expense. they always seem to be a couple of hundred quid though.

Welcome
We got a 4x4 for a tenner, mainly for the slippy diff. We sold the V6 and got a V8 instead
If you want a simple-ish build then I'd go look for a pinto engined sierra and use a de dion rear (or possibly a cortina or capri axle) IMO.

I was in your position about a year ago. I've built my chassis one inch taller to help get the 2.0 pinto in from a Sierra.

I was then able to get the MK nosecone which fits perfectly and MK scuttle.

I have used the book plans for everything else and have gone down the route of a live axle from a capri.

Engine in now in, wiring at the moment and it all runs.

Just waiting for the propshaft and it will drive. Should be on the road in the next couple of months or so.
