All Omex'd up....

...and she lives again!

Albeit running like a dog! Definately not going to be at stoneleigh in it. And considering just trailering it to a rolling road to get them to set it up.

Need to get my head around the software now as its a bit more complicated than Tunerstudio!

Actually the install was an absolute doddle (I say that and it wont work tomorrow!)

When I installed MS i made sure the loom was kept seperate, so it took longer to remove all the cable ties and convoluted tubing than anything else.

The Omex loom was then a direct splice in, probably took around 4 hours in total for the swap. I now just have to re-cover all the wires and cable tie everything back in.

First impressions are that it looks to offer much smoother control, there is less fluctuation on the RPM and AFR readings on the dash even with it in a very poor state of tune. The spark scatter idle control also seems to work rather well...although it was a little concerning to see idle advance of 25deg when i first started it.

I have a couple of minor problems which I need to speak to Omex about tomorrow, but this is nothing to do with the install - just my lack of understanding of the software!

they have fantasic backup too,

you need one of these to interface directly with it now

Yes their support is fantastic from what I have experienced so far

I actually worked with omex for two weeks this time last year. They're great guys, they all know their stuff. One of the guys there used to have a 350hp cosworth westy

Its just too much to ask to get it ready for Stoneleigh now, theres a good few days mapping to get it driveable and check its reliable.

Then I really want to invest in some rolling road time to have it properly seen to by a pro.

Next one looks like Newark! (And its nice and local for me too )

Boooo. Give it a go... Get it rolling roaded one evening You've got 3 days. You can surely get it on the rollers saturday morning somewhere, then to Stoneleigh in the evening

long way to go but I would take it to Dave at Mech Repairs in Cheltenham. He has mapped two engines for me from scratch with Omex ecu and he is just up the road from Omex. I dont see the point in spending shed loads on an engine build and trying to map it yourself. It is also a very accurate rr as a lot of racers use him for their set-ups. He mapped my toyota rotrex installation and it runs as sweet as.

After spending £800 on the ECU upgrade I cant afford to get it rolling roaded until at least next month as you are looking at 4-5 hours at £80/hr+Vat. Sadly I am not made of money This rebuild has pushed me to the limit and the new ecu has crossed it now.

I plan on getting it driveable in the next couple of weeks then taking it to get it set up properly.

I was looking forward to bringing it, believe me After all the time spent getting it ready as well.

I wouldnt worry, megasquirt is reliable but there was something happening on my install that was causing problems.

Its got the developers stumped at the moment as so many things seemed to be wrong and then started to work properly again.

As normal - my problems are always 'special'

You are correct in the way the Omex controls mixture and ignition timing, it is so smooth compared to MS stuff, but to be fair to the MS, it is cheaper, and that is why.
