You need two of the following from one donor to retain the reg of that vehicle.:
Suspension (front & back)
steering assembly
axles (both)
transmission
engine.
And a 'chassis from a specialist kit manufacturer is used ' (ie you cant make your own chassis)
So if you buy a chassis, and use the eng and gearbox from thr volvo/saab/BMW you get the reg of that vehicle. The remaining parts can come from any
one or multiple sources (ie sierra, escort, capri, independent manufacturer etc etc)

you need two major components from a donor (either one) to get an age related plate

The point is you can only prove parts came from a particular donor if it has ID numbers on it which most suspension parts don't have so feel
free to use bits from any car. All you need is the engine/gearbox and chassis in reality to belong to the donor, tbh I've have been through this
process with my beach buggy and the police who came to verify the numbers didn't even look at them, they didn't care or even have a clue
where to start
Also you are not meant to have a modified chassis, which again my buggy has a very modified one where about 50% is totally custom but retains the
chassis number and was never an issue. It’s certainly the easier way to go
Fame is when your old car is plastered all over the internet
