V6 auto to Manual conversion, anything I should know?

I've got a 2.4i Granada engine and manual gearbox all working together fine. I've also got a 2.8 Auto engine (with carb) that I want to fit to the manual gearbox.

What do I have to do to connect the 2.8 to my manual clutch and gearbox?

bold statements!

As my V6 2.4 came with a box on it, I can only advise on what I have read, mostly here.

Thats

a. A v6 box has a longer input shaft than any other type nine.

b. that most ford boxes use the same bolt pattern.


So, your 2.4 v6 box SHOULD work with your 2.8......... unless anyone knows otherwise.....

dunno if the flywheel, clutch and starter move over tho.........

All the cologne based v6's have the same belhousing bolt pattern.. ( 2.0,2,3,2.4,2.9,2.8,24V etc)

Swap the fly and clutch.. You will nead a spigot bearing for the crank too..

The staarter should be ok.

And that should be about it...

There may be an idle adjust circuit on the MFI to cope with the Auto so this may need disabling.

Thanks for all the replys, I presume I can fit the spigot bearing from the 2.4 onto the 2.8.

I don't actually know what a spigot bearing looks like or what it does but I'm stripping the Granada at the moment so I'll soon find out.

Spigot bearings are notorious for being real beasts to get out, but they`re generally not a big expense item.

You will struggle to get it out.. The way to do it is to find a long bolt that just passes through the center of teh bearing..

Libraly spray releasing fluid on the mating edges..

Push lots and lots of LM-Grease into the hole and get it packed in very tight.

Then take the bolt put it in the hole.

And Smack it one with a lump hammer.

Hopefully the grease will haev nowhere to go and attempt to push the bearing back out.. ( warning could be messy ) it may need doing a few times..


Alternativly get a new bearing from Burton for £10.
