Two Sierras spotted at my local scrappy
NTDWM but as I was in my local 'Vehicle Recycling Plant', I notice two Sierras. Didn't climb up to investigate what engine/box they
had but neither were XR4x4s but were complete! Destined for the crusher soon.
Owner is called Moose on 01947 880091 (Whitby Salvage).
Tell him I told you about the cars and you may get a discount, or I may get a pint out of it! Or not...

Nice
Nice spot, hope someone snaps them up.

Scrap cars , a question?
Hi, new member so please bear with me if I ask stupid questions.
My local breakers said they can't sell me a car that has been brought in for breaking as they have the V5 marked as for destruction or something
like that. How can I get them to change there minds? Offered cash obviously. I also told them I don't actually want any parts as I am almost at
completion point.
I would have thought they'd have been happy to keep the car for scrap and breaking value and have some extra cash for ,on paper selling me bits
and giving me a photocopy of the V5.
It'll be finished one day ! Now put the kettle on.

If your after the car it's self id say your fighting a losing battle at 99% of beakers scrappys ...
I have tried many beakers scrap yards over the years for cars to use for banger racing and every time the answer is no Seem's once there in
that yard its the end no matter how good they are
But for parts they would be ideal ...

I think once the V5 has been sent off as scrapped the vehicle legally doesn't exist. Personally I wouldn't trust someone to take a working
scrapped car and not put it on the road (illegally of course) because it would come back to me. I don't know what laws would be broken exactly
but I can see ringing and mot/tax dodging going on.

Buying the V5 is illegal
This is because it helps in stoping theiving scumbags ringing stolen cars.
I am not saying this is what you intend to do but if you are not careful you will end up with a vehicle that has a suspect identity and compromised
value.
If the v5 is marked for destruction the vehicle is probably an insurance write off recorded as beyond economic repair so its V5 is of no use to you at
all. It cannot be put back on the road. You are fortunate that the scrappy didnt take your money for a worthles bit of paper.
Take care and good luck with completing and registering your build
Cheers

Thanks for the replies . Yes I see what you mean. It seems a bit strange though when the Government and local Councils are actively encouraging
recycling that there is no clause in existence where maybe you could go to a scrapyard and buy, say a perfectly good engine and gearbox from a rear
end write and possibly other parts ,steering /suspension etc that could be used for a kit car with a "Certificate of provenance" along the
lines of " I certify the following items , ............ were removed from vehicle Registration number............. on
(date)......................"
I have sourced, engine (rebuilt), gearbox (rebuilt) and other bits and pieces all but I just don't want a Q plate, I had one years ago when they
were issued for imports and specials, had a hell of a job at times with all sorts. Probably not as many problems nowadays ,just don't fancy the
hassle for something which is basically a Sierra with a few modifications
It'll be finished one day ! Now put the kettle on.
