best sierra model?
Right ive decided sierra is the way to go for me, but what model is the most suitable??
ive seen a 2.0i but would injection complicate things, because im not totally confident of deviating from the book and sierra alltogether is quite
daunting.
Ive looked through past posts and learned alot but this im unsure of.
any advice is much appreciated, Cheers Will

Hi Will,
General opinion seems to be that the early 2.0L SOHC (Pinto) Sierra is the easiest model to use. It has the simplest ignition system for a start and
will require the least modification of parts. The 2.0i for example will probably require you to modify the injection plenum to fit under the bonnet
or a change to carbs.

as said an early pinto car. this will normally have a type 9 gearbox and rear drums.
for an lsd/rear discs you need an xr4x4 rear end, though you need 2wd front uprights and non power steering rack.

The advantage of the 2.0i is that it comes with the 205 block which is much stronger, and an unleaded head. Dropping the plenum is not difficult or
expensive and saves the cost of twin 45's.
Another advantage is that the whole donor will be newer, possibly less miles, and easier to get hold of - when was the last time you saw a 1983 sierra
in or out of the scrapyard?
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

i agree with the above. There is no perfect donor cos you want an LSD, but need 2wd front hubs (to my knowledge, all LSDs were in 4x4 cars.)
