Spares compabiblity between cars

As I’m sure your aware some parts like brake pads, bearings etc are shared between models even different manufactures.

Does anyone know of a way of checking, maybe by part number what cars would share common spares? Perhaps there is an online database available…?

Any ideas?

I know there used to be the SIDEM catalogue which had information like this. I have an electornic copy somewhere at home.

Also I have checked part numbers for clutch and pressure plate #'s and cross compatability sizes in the QH catalogue.SIDEM

I just tend to use google. with some careful checking of shared part numbers you can trace quite extensively

Most AfterMarket spares manufacturers/suppliers show a 'to replace OE part no:...' then once you have the AM part no, more googling can reveal what part nos other AMs use for them too.

Becomes an issue with VAG components where they have a string of superseded part numbers where some have earlier compatibility and some don't despite seeming to be the same part. It's fun to search though.
