Some sensors have an LED in the end to help diagnostics. When you spin the wheel then it should flash. It is basically a Hall effect sensor with a
digital (puled output) Put a DVM or better an analog meter on dc and you should get a reading change when you spin the wheel (on the sensor output
terminal).
The fact the speedo is indicating fsd every ten seconds or so is significant. In my mind it is indicating the supply volts are either marginal or
intermittent or very noisy. Either way try an external supply from another battery.
Just some thoughts!

I've fitted one to a bespoke mk2 escort. It will work with a variety of speed sensors from hall effect to reed switches etc. ( From memory). I
have all my notes at work so will have a look tomorrow for you.
Meanwhile this might help you with your setup/calibration.

Looked at all my notes and there's nothing extra on them other than what you see on the website I posted above.
Was it working before?? And what type sensor do you have??.
ETA have you tried the holding in of the button whilst you turn on the ign switch. Might be enough for it to go into calibrate mode and restart the
process.

ETA where have you read/been told it should read " Test" I can find no reference to it at all in any documentation I have or online?

Its a new inductive sensor. Pushing button while turning ign on does nothing .
