Sierra vented discs?
Afternoon all.
Does anyone happen to know what models of ford Sierras were fitted with the 240mm vented discs?
I'm trying to explain to a local motor factor what brake pads I want, and they seem to require a make and model of car (or reg number) to even
try to help.
If someone can help, I would really appreciate it!
Cheers
Andy
ps. next time, I'll take the parts of a car myself, instead of letting the breakers do it for me!
Dammit! Too many decisions....

Youve entered the mine field!
My donor was 1992 2.0 DOHC. It had vented discs (fronts - rear brakes were drums). The discs were dead easy to get, as were recon calipers. The pads
on the other hand were a pig.
I fitted EBC greenstuff. They were listed as 2473's. far too big. i should have had 2415's. Apparently the 2473's are for ABS
calipers.
Dont ask me why - i checked the online catalogue and they defo listed 2473's as being correct, but they werent in practice. I hope you have the
old pads still so you can match them up. I think my car was on a model change year, Ford mustve used up some old stock first.
So in summary even if you give them the model number, year, chassis number, reg and even Henrys waist size you still risk getting the wrong ones. If
they are helpful enough they may let you take both sizes and return the ones that dont fit.
I hope this helps.
BTW - greenstuff pads were only £35.

Brilliant cheers folks!
I guess I better take the calipers with me tomorrow to get the right pads if they are sometimes listed incorrectly. unfortunately, I dont have the
old pads to use as a reference. It's a good job i haven't bolted the calipers down yet!
Cheers
Andy

That's right about the calipers, the abs rwd models were fitted with the same calipers as the XR4x4's, i.e. the bigger ones. The std 2wd
non abs models had the smaller calipers.

Andy,
Did you get sorted??? I found the bigger pads still fitted the calipers off the car, it was only when i bolted it all up it was apparant that they
were wrong. I too didnt keep the old pads.
I hope it all worked out in the end.

Yeah, I managed to get a set of pads in the end. I went to Halfords in Bangor, and the chap there was most helpful. i took the calipers with me, and
he must have opened about 4 boxes of pads and discs to get the right ones.
I also found out I have two different types of caliper! The one uses a pressed steel plate type clip to stop things rattling, and the other uses a
wire clip. I guess I got parts off a Sierra that was made when the design was changed!
I think the Sierra model listed on the computer in halfords was a 2.8 litre V6 Sierra? I could be wrong though!

My calipers have the wire clip, teves i think. I think my model was also on changeover. It would appear that Ford are good at changing to a new type
and then change back for some reason. Either that or the dealers were playing tricks pre-registering newer models so that they appear on the market
out of sync - trick to get the sales figures looking right. Ive heard its not uncommon for older models to sit unregistered and then get cleared at
knock down prices later. This makes us strippers have a hard time!
Im please you got sorted. Keep the box label in your file for future reference.
