Which serria is best for an easy build is it a 2 ltr no power steering what year?

mine was a d reg, i think they're pre 87/88 for a pinto and type 9 box. as you probably know later ones are cvh, dohc 8v and probably mt75.

all ford sierras are rear wheel drive
if your on a budget get a none power steering model very basic no special edition the drums look crap but stopping power will be plenty enough depends how much££££ youve got, really wouldnt bother with 2.0 pinto mate

either go modern 16v zetec or vauxhall

OR go budget bike engine 900cc

and wee on basically every car that tries it on with you then youve got the sounds aswell,

once youve been in a 2.0 pinto one youll THINK its fun but the novelty will soon wear off when a lot of cars still beat you(you think your accelerating quicker than what you are)

Insurance is still cheap and by the time youve recond/slightly modded a pinto you may aswell gone another route!

Already built a 1300 xflow(and happy with it) and i am just about to build a kit with some students we are looking to have a donor car given to us (been offered a dohc 2ltr) but want to get the right donor that we can get all the parts off to use on a single donor kit, to make it easy.
Plus we dont want 12,000 revs screaming under the bonnent

So which is it to be
2ltr pinto nonpower pre feb 90 (g)

There is - they were way ahead of their time so a lot of people think they are old hat. Truth is they are still highly capable in std form, very easily tuneable and ideal for a novice as they are so forgiving mechanically. Pinto's are like the Lords of the engine world looking down on the dukes and there funny high revving ways!!!
At the end of the day an engine is an engine. If its a road car you want then a Pinto is more than capable and as cheap as chips if you get a good donor - as you already know. And the best bit is you get a car with a car engine instead of one of those daft loud mouthed hybrid jobs.

Pinto is a good motor, its just a bit "lardy" compared to the zetecs etc...

Not quite as lardy as my motor tho

Don't underestimate the later DOHC 8V engine either, there are some very low mileage examples out there and it is very torquey and in standard form produces more power and better fuel economy than the pinto. Downside, you can't get the tuning bits like you can for the pinto and its a bit bigger (some say heavier too) so is a tighter fit but it will fit so don't rule it out. I got one for the wife at the auction, mint condition, under 40K genuine miles, full service history, taxed and mot'd, my winning bid was £190.

Please don't knock the Pinto.
It has served us well and still is.
It is a very reliable lump "except for the cam"
It is very easy to tune and responds well to even modest mods,
There are still loads of "trick" bits around for it at bargain basement prices
An ideal choice, still, for the budget Conscious/novice builder.
