Zetec Donor Price
Hiya guys,
Can I just ask a personal question?
How much (roughly) are you zetec boys spending on your donors? I've been looking for months now for a donor but the cheapest one I've seen
round my way was sold for £4000 and I'm a bit reluctant to spend that sort of money for a 2nd+ hand engine.
Am I being totally unrealistic looking for something cheaper?
P.S. What Rovers were the K series engines in? How do they compare both in price and quality to zetecs?

You can buy a complete new engine from trust electrical for less than £1000....
engines on e-bay typically vary from £50-£150 for silvertops.
any particular reason you're looking for a complete donor?
Surely old Mk 1 Mondeo's go for peanuts anywhere? If not, tell me where you live and I'll go buy a £500 mondy bring it up your way and
flog it for a £3.5k profit....

I've read you can get brand new ones from Ford for £1200, but I doubt they have a full set of ancilliaries. A mk1 Mondeo with an MOT
shouldn't cost much more than £500... without an MOT they are £2-300. Try adtrader or loot websites there always seem to be plenty about.
Rovers with K series are about the same money. Rover 200/400 would be a good donor.

I need the full donor because apart from the engine I will also need gearbox, rad, pipes etc.
on ebay mondeo going in salisbury (35 miles from me) for £800 with 6 days left to go. And it has no tax, or mot so can't get it home without a
trailer which I aint got :O(
Might start looking for rover donors or put an ad in the local free ads.

Unless you're building a midi the gearbox from a mondeo will be useless (Transverse FWD). Little problem to bolt up to a type 9 or MT75 from a
sierra though. There are some other bits and pieces you need to sort for inline RWD (thermostat?)
Not sure what (if anything) Ford used the Zetec for in RWD.
For K series you will need a type 9 gearbox from a sierra and a bellhousing to join them together.
Try going to www.adtrader.co.uk and www.loot.co.uk sticking you postcode and mondeo into the search box, see what you get.

For the record I'm after a FWD engine/gearbox as it is a midi Ii'm building.
Will give adtrader a go as well me thinks. Pity there is no WANTED section on ebay.

You can put a wanted add on there. Just list it as a normal thing but state its wanted.
I paid 50 quid for my engine. Theres always complete engine and boxes on ebay for less that 200 quid.
Are u willing to travel to collect? I know someone with an l reg 1.8 mondeo estate he wants rid of for very little money located in ipswich. Not
sure if he still has it though.

My mondeo 2.0 was £200. But I sold the engine because I'm using a K series! Lighter than a zetec apparently.

In Novemember I bought a very clean original 96 reg Mondeo for 250+auction fees for son in law all it needed was a wishbone and the headlights
cleaned for an MOT. Has run perfectly ever since.

Does it have to be a mondeo ?
I would think an 1800 zetec escort would be cheaper, just a thought

I've got a 1.8 Mondeo estate you can have for £80, delivered to the ferry in Yarmouth. Meet you in Lymington.
No tax or MOT, but good strong engine/box.
Syd.
Fully dressed engines go for £75 at the local scrap yard.
